  芝加哥位于美国中部、世界第一大湖密歇根湖畔与芝加哥湖交汇处,面积588平方公里。现有人口270万。芝加哥是美国的铁路枢纽,几十条铁路交汇于此,连接美国各大城市;奥黑尔国际机场是世界上最繁忙的国际机场之一;19世纪开通的伊利诺伊-密歇根运河,把处于内陆的芝加哥同五大湖和大西洋连接起来,变为港口城市;因此,芝加哥可以称得上是美国水、陆、空交通运输的中心。美国最大的期货市场-芝加哥商品交易所和芝加哥期货交易所均设在此。

  芝加哥还是美国中部的高等教育中心,芝加哥大学被誉为"诺贝尔奖"获得者的摇篮,曾先后培育出诺贝尔奖获得者30多人。西角的阿岗国家研究院、贝尔实验室、费米实验室的科研成就在全美以至世界都令人瞩目,有相当数目的华裔学者、工程技术人员在这些科研院任职。

  UIC校园由位于芝加哥市小意大利(Littel Italy)和大学村(University Village)的三个园区组成。东校园在希腊城(Greektown)以南的近西锡德(Near West Side),离芝加哥市中心只有15分钟的步行距离。西校园坐落于在伊利诺伊医疗地区的中心。南校园位于大学村。
